Constructed on the site of an old shingle quarry that was subsequently infilled using construction waste, which later  became a golf driving range, the regeneration of this land into a 10 lots commercial development featured the construction of some challenging infrastructure from both an engineering and constructability perspective.  With the remains of the quarrying operations now forming a natural lake and habitat for wildlife, this project required careful management, mitigation and consultation with Ecan, Fish & Game and our own independently appointed environmental consultant.  Giving the previous use of the land, this site required some of the normal construction practices to be amended to suit its unique / unknown geotechnical characteristics.  Roads where constructed on top of reinforced rafts, storm water was discharged to ground through 2m diameter oversized 7m+ deep rapid infiltration chambers sewer and water connections where laid in shallow trenches and pressurized given the uncertainty of the underling surface.  The project required a competent, experienced and quality contractor and management team to deliver this contract through challenging circumstances and ever-changing conditions associated with the uncertain ground conditions and content.  This project has been ongoing for a considerable duration but is nearing its completion, allowing this previously waste land to be transformed into a bustling hub of activity and commercial growth.
